Otis B. Driftwood (as depicted in House of 1,000 Corpses)

Who is Otis B. Driftwood (Bill Moseley)?  Little is known about him, but he’s a Manson-esque associate of the miscreant, serial killing Firefly family.  A saint he is not.  Still, this self-stylized “leader of the rebellion” against mainstream normalcy seems to think very highly of himself, when he can think at all.  Either that or he holds others in such low esteem that it elevates himself.  Whatever the rationalization, Otis B. Driftwood is a killer.

While House of 1,000 Corpses was panned by critics (and director Rob Zombie himself), it’s a movie that nevertheless has its charm, and part of that is Mr. Driftwood.

A key moment?

Otis: [ranting to tied up cheerleaders] “‘Why’, you ask? ‘Why’ is not the question. How? Now, that is a question worth examining. How could I, being born of such, uh… conventional stock, arrive a leader of the rebellion? An escapist from a conformist world, destined to find happiness only in that which cannot be explained? I brought you here for a reason, but unfortunately you and your sentimental minds are doing me no good! My brain is frozen. Locked! I have to break free from this culture of mechanical reproductions and the thick encrustations dying on the surface!”
